December 2011

Thank you to everyone who supported our Luminaria event on
Monday night, December 19.

The winding entrance from Five Mile Line Drive and the walkway
to Shepherd Home's front door were aglow from the gentle flicker
of more than 270 luminaries.

The luminaries, small bags holding sand and a lighted candle, created
a moving nighttime holiday display - - each one honoring or
memorializing friends or loved ones.

The Wings of Light luminaria event is over, but you can still honor or
memorialize someone special in your life by purchasing an engraved brick for the Shepherd Home garden pathway here.

Penfield Business Association
First Annual Golf Tournament Benefits Shepherd Home

Over 100 golfers came out to Penfield Country Club for the first annual golf tournament sponsored by Penfield Business Association. Everyone enjoyed the glorious weather and fabulous golf.  Family First Federal Credit Union was the title sponsor and had a foursome golfing as well. Play started at 12:30 after a fantastic lunch sponsored by Don's Original. The day's festivities continued with a fantastic dinner and live auction.  Our sincerest thanks goes to Penfield Business Association and all of the sponsors, commiteee and volunteers who made this event such a success!

Paetec Golf Fundraiser

A group from Paetec held a golf tournament on Saturday, September 17 at Brockport Country Club. The organizing committtee chose Shepherd Home to receive the proceeds from this event in which about 100 golfers participated.

We are very grateful to have been designated to be the recipient of the funds raised by this exciting event. Mike Trippany, one of the organizers, suggested Shepherd Home to the committee after witnessing the excellent care his uncle received here in 2010.

Thank you, Paetec!

Wedding of the Century!

Wednesday July 13 was a very special day at Shepherd Home. We hosted a wedding ceremony in our gardens! Shelley, one of our residents, told her nurse that she and her husband Ray eloped more than 30 years ago. They've been very happy together, but they always missed having a formal ceremony with their family and friends. The nurse said, "Why not now?" and with those words the gears were set in motion. In less than a week the Shepherd Home staff, lots of volunteers, several local businesses, and friends and family pulled everything together for a wonderful wedding and celebration.

United Way "Day of Caring"

A big thank you to Thermo Fisher's Penfield office for their annual spring clean-up of the Shepherd Home yard and gardens on Wednesday, May 11. More than twenty people helped out this year to rake, weed, mulch, and add new plantings.

They also took on a really big project by extending our memorial walkway. Currently our brick walkway goes halfway across the back yard to a gazebo. The Thermo Fisher crew did massive prep work to extend the path another 42 feet to a new sitting area. Soon bricks will be added to complete this phase of our memorial garden walkway.

Incidentally, engraved memorial bricks may be purchased by calling Shepherd Home. Half the proceeds from memorial brick sales goes to maintain the memorial gardens and the other half goes to support Shepherd Homes operating expenses for providing resident care.
