Care
Our residents are referred to us from a certified hospice agency; Lifetime Care or Visiting Nurse Service. They have been given a terminal diagnosis of three months or less to live and have been placed on hospice care. When they are welcomed at Shepherd Home, the hospice agency and our medical director oversee their care. Hospice care is comfort care; the person’s physical pain is controlled and every effort is made to address one’s emotional and spiritual needs as well.

Medical Advisor Aaron Olden, M.D. works in conjunction with the referring certified hospice agency nurse and devises a care plan individualized for each resident. Our staff nurses, Ann Ras, LPN and Jeanne Stohs, LPN are responsible for administering the care given to our residents. This involves daily assessment of the resident’s condition, dispensing prescribed medications and with our trained volunteers, providing personal care.

Our 80+ trained volunteers fill 56 shifts a week. They work two-by-two for 4 hour shifts assisting the nurse with the personal care and offering hospitality to family members and visitors.
